Venom: The Last Dance

Our symbiotic relationship with everyone’s favourite alien began back in 2018 for the original ‘Venom’ film, and continued for ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ in 2021. So, we were beyond excited to return to the franchise this year and complete the trilogy as VFX partner for ‘Venom: The Last Dance’.

‘The Last Dance’ sees Eddie and Venom, still on the run following their battle with Carnage, being hunted by enemies from both of their worlds and eventually forced to make an impossible decision.

Our VFX team was tasked with creating a whole cast of creatures for the final instalment, including the CG build and animation of the classic Venom and Wraith Venom characters, as well as a host of new characters such as Venom Horse, Xenophage and the green Symbiote. We also delivered multiple complex FX sims for creature transformation shots, full CG environments, and a variety of 2D enhancements.

Our VFX work included the aeroplane fight between Venom and Xenophage, which is the first time we see the two characters interacting. The fully CG sequence required an extensive environment and skyscape build, challenging creature animation for both characters, and complex FX work for the cloudscapes and plane damage.

As well as navigating the challenges of animating the first sequence showing Wraith Venom in broad daylight, the first look at the classic Venom/Eddie split face effect, and the first full transformation of the movie, our team also put on their dancing shoes to create another first - the iconic Venom and Mrs. Chen dance sequence! This light-hearted scene also featured work from our DNEG 360 team, who provided mocap services on set.

‘Venom: The Last Dance’, just like the rest of the Venom series, provided our teams with some unique creative challenges and opportunities. We are honoured to have been there from the start to help create an amazing franchise, and to be there at the end to bring Venom’s story to an epic and fitting conclusion!
