Transformers: Age of Extinction

After an epic battle, a great city lies in ruins, but the Earth itself is saved. As humanity begins to pick up the pieces, a shadowy group emerges to try to take control of history. Meanwhile, an ancient and powerful new menace sets its sights on Earth. A new group of humans, led by Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg), helps Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) and the Autobots rise up to meet their most fearsome challenge yet: a worldwide war of good versus evil.

The stereo team delivered a variety of work that supported the overall stereo look of the film. The team had a huge remit on Transformers: Age of Extinction. They were working with natively captured stereo plates, and part of their work was to make these stereo shots more stable. The team also augmented a lot of the natively-shot stereo footage that was captured using long lenses, which can make character’s faces look flat by sculpting the characters’ faces to restore depth and realism.

Using Nuke the team could do re-projections in 3D, rebuild an environment, augment some paint work or even change effects such as missile trails after the fact. For instance, they might give more or less break-up as the missile flies by or make the smoke dissipate faster or slower. The team was able to do a lot more of that in the 2D context rather than going back to 3D and re-rendering significant portions of work.
