Sydney at a Glance

Sydney is the capital of New South Wales, Australia. With more than 5 million residents living in the metropolitan region, Sydney is the country’s largest city in both size and population.

In addition to its rich history and culture, Sydney’s scenic harbour and strategic positioning make it one of the most important ports in the South Pacific. Sydney is predominantly a city of government and local and international commerce and is regarded as New South Wales’ hub for shopping, culture, and entertainment.

With stunning natural scenery, incredible landmarks and a thriving arts, culture, and nightlife scene, this vibrant coastal city offers something for everyone!

Sydney is home to the Sydney Opera House, one of the 20th century’s most famous and distinctive buildings. Designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon in 1973, the multi-venue performing arts centre is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Sydney is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, boasting the 3rd largest foreign-born population of any city after London and New York City, respectively. Around a third of Sydney’s residents were born overseas!

Sydney has over 100 beaches within its city limits, including Bondi beach, one of the most iconic beaches in the world!
