Don’t miss Paul Franklin at the London Science Museum’s Science Fiction Film Festival!

We’re delighted to share that DNEG VFX Supervisor and multiple Academy Award®-winner Paul Franklin will be attending the London Science Museum’s upcoming Science Fiction Film Festival, happening March 8th to 12th.

Hosted by the London Science Museum to celebrate their blockbuster exhibition, Science Fiction: Voyage to the Edge of Imagination, the Science Fiction Film Festival will showcase a diverse range of sci-fi films, from classic favourites to modern blockbusters, in addition to panel discussions, interactive exhibits and other activities that explore the intersection of science and sci-fi cinema.

INTERSTELLAR IMAX SCREENING + Q&A
DATE: Wednesday, March 8th

LOCATION: IMAX: The Ronson Theatre, level 0
Join DNEG VFX Supervisor Paul Franklin for this special screening of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. Paul, who received the Academy Award® for ‘Best Visual Effects’ for his work on the film, will be joining award-winning journalist and broadcaster Samira Ahmed for a Q&A following the screening, which will be introduced by director Christopher Nolan in an exclusive, filmed introduction. This special screening and Q&A event will open the Science Fiction Film Festival.

BUILDING SCI-FI WORLDS

LOCATION: The Hans Rausing Lecture Theatre, level 0
In this panel, Paul joins esteemed science fiction experts to explore questions such as: How were the iconic landscapes of films and texts like Star Wars, Dune, Blade Runner or Alien dreamt up and brought to life? What do we know about real-life exoplanets—planets beyond our own solar system? What do we expect habitable planets to look like? And how can budding writers take their first steps into science fiction world-building?

Other panellists include Ben Aaronovitch (a bestselling author and screenwriter for Doctor Who); Professor Giovanna Tinetti (Head of the Astrophysics group at UCL and director of the UCL Centre for Space Exo-chemistry Data at Harwell) and Professor Jennifer Rohn (Research group leader in the Division of Medicine at UCL, a novelist, journalist, and author of multiple books; and founder of LabLit.com).
