We were thrilled to welcome John Musker as part of DNEG Animation’s INSPIRE series!
John is an award-winning animator and filmmaker. During his 40 years at Disney Animation Studios, he wrote and directed several iconic animated features alongside his partner Ron Clements, including The Great Mouse Detective (1986), The Little Mermaid (1989), Aladdin (1992), Hercules (1997), Treasure Planet (2002), The Princess and the Frog (2009), and Moana (2016).
Joining us at our London studio, John treated our crew to a screening of his new animated short film I’m Hip, which he animated by hand following his retirement. He then shared a presentation on the making of the short, including details about his stylistic influences and a guide to the over 120 “caricatures” of family, friends, and animation colleagues featured in it!
Following this, John was joined by DNEG Animation’s Ted Ty (Global Head of Animation) for a fascinating conversation, where the duo spoke about their careers and reminisced on their respective times working at Disney! Then, audiences had the chance to ask their own questions about the making of I’m Hip and his other projects, to which he shared more about his inspirations and his experience creating hit animated classics.
After the presentation, John joined our crew for some food and additional conversation – and even signed a few autographs!
We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to John for joining us for this special INSPIRE event!
