Following on from the exciting news of the launch of the UK’s first dedicated high-end CG feature animation studio, Locksmith Animation, we are delighted to announce the formation of DNEG’s new Feature Animation Division led by ex-Dreamworks Associate Producer, Tom Jacomb. The new division’s intent being to create an integrated front end / back end pipeline to work in tandem with IP creators and filmmakers in the creation of high end animated features.
Here at Double Negative, we have the infrastructure, pipeline and talent to provide unparalleled support for our new division. Feature Animation will also be looking to augment DNEG’s core team of animators and artists with additional artists specifically focussed on Animated features (to be based out of our London HQ).
We are very pleased to welcome Tom Jacomb to Double Negative as Managing Director of the new division. Tom has over 12 years experience as Associate Producer/Line Producer on full CG Animated Feature Films, having previously built 2 feature animation studios in London and Vancouver CA.
Tom joins Double Negative, most recently, from Dreamworks where he was Associate Producer on Oscar nominated Puss in Boots (grossing over $580m in the worldwide box office and spawning a brand new franchise with a sequel already in the works) and the critically acclaimed Rise of the Guardians (grossing over $300m).
Says Matt Holben, DNEG co-founder and CEO:
Animated Feature Films are an exciting next step in the development of Double Negative. We recognise that whilst there are synergies with VFX it requires a different approach. We are thrilled that Tom Jacomb has joined us to develop our new division. We are excited by the long-term potential of feature animation and are determined to build a sustainable pipeline of work.
Says Tom Jacomb our new Managing Director of Animated Features:
I am incredibly excited to be coming back to London, with all the incredible animation talent here, to build a top quality feature studio with Double Negative. Combining those talents with the vision, passion and artistry shown by Double Negative is an opportunity to create a sustainable first class studio
Both Tom Jacomb and DNEG co-founder and MD Alex Hope will be in attendance at FMX 2014 in Stuttgart on 25th April.
Tom will be taking part in panel Tearing Up the Schedule whilst Alex will be taking part in panel discussion Designing the Future of Animation Production.
