DNEG honoured with two VES Awards 2018

DNEG brings home VES awards for ‘Dunkirk’ and ‘Blade Runner 2049’

We are delighted to announce that DNEG was honoured last night with two Visual Effects Society Awards at the 16th Annual VES Awards Gala in Los Angeles. Our talented teams picked up the awards in the ‘Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature’ category for our work on ‘Dunkirk’ and in the ‘Outstanding Created Environment in a Photoreal Feature’ category for our work on ‘Blade Runner 2049’.

We were the lead VFX house on Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk’, and the DNEG team of Andrew Jackson (Overall VFX Supervisor), Andrew Lockley (DNEG VFX Supervisor), Alison Wortman (DNEG CG Supervisor) was nominated alongside Scott Fisher and Mike Chambers. Our work on ‘Dunkirk’ supported Christopher Nolan’s vision for a raw and gritty authenticity in the retelling of the story of hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers being rescued from the beaches of Dunkirk in France in the Second World War.

DNEG was also the lead VFX house on ‘Blade Runner 2049’, and our Vancouver team picked up the award for ‘Outstanding Created Environment in a Photoreal Feature’. DNEG VFX Supervisor Paul Lambert led the team to create the futuristic 2049 Los Angeles cityscapes, the Joi hologram effects, the threesome sequence in K’s apartment with Joi and Mariette and the seawall chase at the end of the movie. Chris McLaughlin (CG Supervisor), Rhys Salcombe (Build Supervisor), Francesco Dell’Anna (Lead Compositor) and Seungjin Woo (Concept Artist) picked up the honour for their environment work on Los Angeles 2049.

‘Blade Runner 2049’ is nominated in the ‘Visual Effects’ category for the 90thAcademy Awards (March 4th) and ‘Best Special Visual Effects’ category for the EE BAFTAs 2018 (Feb 18th).

Dunkirk is also nominated in the ‘Best Special Visual Effects’ category for the EE BAFTAs 2018.
