Celebrating International Women’s Day across our global studios.
To mark this year’s International Women’s Day and its theme of #BreakTheBias, our DNEG teams are joining in important conversations both internally and externally to further our commitment to supporting women, not just within our studios but also in the wider visual effects and animation industry.
Dara McGarry (Operations Manager, DNEG Animation), Lorie Corcuera (Head of HR, North America West) and Deepa Valvi (Assistant Head of HR, India) recently spoke to VFX Wire about gender equality in the VFX and animation industry. Drawing on the recent ‘Invisible in Visual Effects’ report prepared by the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative and Women in Animation, the group spoke about the lack of women in leadership roles industry wide — and best practices to create a more equitable and inclusive working environment. Highlighted within that discussion were DNEG-led initiatives and working practices that support women within our studios, from Parental Leave Coaching and Career Coaching programmes to mentorship groups and dnWomen, DNEG’s by-women and for-women Employee Resource Group. DNEG is also proud to support external groups such as Animated Women UK (AWUK), AccessVFX, Women in Animation and Lean In. Recently, we also hosted a DNEG Deep Dive on ‘Life Lessons to Thrive in VFX and Animation’ featuring a women-led panel offering advice to students and junior professionals about carving out a career in the industry.
Still to come this week, we’ll be hosting an internal all-women panel on the theme of #BreakTheBias featuring some incredible industry speakers and moderated by Kara Oropallo, (VP – Training, Outreach and Artistic Development, DNEG Animation). More to come on that soon!
