Awards season is heating up, and we’re thrilled to share the latest news about our nominated projects!

Academy Awards® Nominations

We’re extremely proud to share that two films featuring DNEG-led visual effects have been nominated for the ‘Best Visual Effects’ Oscar® at the 2022 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards. The selected titles were determined by the Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee.

Our nominated films are:

    • DunePaul Lambert, Tristan Myles, Brian Connor and Gerd Nefzer (DNEG was the lead VFX partner)
    • No Time To DieCharlie Noble, Joel Green, Jonathan Fawkner and Chris Corbould (DNEG was the lead VFX partner and DNEG’s Charlie Noble was the overall Production VFX Supervisor)

Other nominations:

    • Free Guy
    • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
    • Spider-Man: No Way Home

94th Academy Awards

The winners of the 94th Academy Awards® will then be announced at the

Oscars® ceremony, scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 27th.


BAFTAs

The 2022 EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) were held on Sunday 13 March 2022, in London – and DNEG brought home the BAFTA for ‘Special Visual Effects’ for its work on Dune!

Four of the five films nominated in the Special Visual Effects category for the 2022 EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) featured DNEG-led VFX work!

    • DuneBrian Connor, Paul Lambert, Tristan Myles, Gerd Nefzer (DNEG was the lead VFX partner) – WINNER
    • Ghostbusters: AfterlifeAharon Bourland, Sheena Duggal, Pier Lefebvre, Alessandro Ongaro (DNEG was the lead VFX partner)
    • The Matrix Resurrections Tom Debenham, Huw J Evans, Dan Glass, J. D. Schwalm (DNEG was the lead VFX partner and DNEG’s Dan Glass was the overall Production VFX Supervisor)
    • No Time to Die —  Mark Bokowski, Chris Corbould, Joel Green, Charlie Noble (DNEG was the lead VFX partner and DNEG’s Charlie Noble was the overall Production VFX Supervisor)

The other nominated title was:

    • Free Guy

We’re truly over the moon to see our incredible teams receive this well-deserved recognition. Congratulations to all the DNEG crews that contributed to these projects and to all the other nominees.


Visual Effects Society Awards

The 20th Annual VES Awards was held on Tuesday 8 March in Los Angeles, and DNEG was thrilled to bring home seven VES Awards for its work on ‘Dune’, ‘Last Night in Soho’ and ‘Foundation’.

The DNEG team had been recognised with 12 VES Award nominations across 10 categories!

Critics Choice Award nominations

The 2022 Critic’s Choice Awards were held on Sunday 13 March 2022 – and DNEG brought home the Award for ‘Best Visual Effects’ for its work on Dune!

The Critics Choice Awards are bestowed annually to honour the finest in cinematic and television achievement. Historically, they are the most accurate predictor of Academy Award nominations. We couldn’t be more humbled to see DNEG VFX talent represented in three out of five of this year’s nominations. Congratulations to all our teams behind the nominated titles!
