DOUBLE NEGATIVE SHINES IN AWARDS NOMINATIONS

After celebrating its 10th birthday in 2008, Double Negative has kicked off 2009 with an array of awards nominations, seeing its visual effects work being included in finalist lists for the Oscars, BAFTAs and the VES awards.

The final three films contending for the Achievement in Visual Effects award at the 81st Annual Academy Awards were announced last week and included The Dark Knight. The nominees were the film's overall VFX Supervisor, Nick Davis, Double Negative's VFX Supervisor, Paul Franklin, Framestore's VFX Supervisor, Tim Webber and Special Effects Supervisor, Chris Corbould.

The Dark Knight team were also nominated for a BAFTA award in the equivalent category.

Double Negative was the lead vendor on The Dark Knight, working closely with Nick Davis and director, Chris Nolan, to achieve the stunning Batpod Birth sequence and the realisation of the Gotham City environments in IMAX resolution.

Quantum of Solace was also nominated for a BAFTA for its visual effects and again Double Negative was the lead vendor on that film. Led by VFX Supervisors, Ged Wright and Alex Wuttke, the dNeg team created the film's breathtaking 'Bodyflight' sequence, the daring aerial dogfight sequence and the fast paced opening car chase.

In addition to the nominations mentioned above, Double Negative's work has also been recognised with 6 VES nominations. Among those are Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Cloverfield for Best VFX in a Motion Picture.
