A dazzling experiment that paid off immensely, this is cinematic pleasure at its purest. One caveat: If they ever make a sequel, we're taking two stars back.Empire

Cloverfield is the most intense and original creature feature I've seen in my adult moviegoing life, and that's coming from a guy who knows his Gojira from his Gamera and his Harryhausen from his Honda. Cloverfield isn't a horror film – it's a pure-blood, grade A, exultantly exhilarating monster movie.Austin Chronicles

Film Background

Directed by Matt Reeves and produced by J.J. Abrams (Lost), Cloverfield tells the story of five young New Yorkers who throw their friend a leaving party the night that a monster descends upon the city. Taken from the point of view of one of the friends’s video cameras, the action unfolds as they try to survive this horrifying event.

Double Negative’s main task was to wreak destructive havoc upon New York City. Complex digital environments were built and then attacked with a variety of in-house CG tools. Key scenes involved creating well-known areas such as Park Avenue and high angle views across the city. A detailed digital model of the Brooklyn Bridge was built and then torn apart as refugees from the disaster attempt to flee the rampaging monster and in the signature shot for the movie, the head of the Statue of Liberty was sent tumbling through the streets of Manhattan.
